  Confirmed research results, new ongoing and intended research, motivated an interdepartmental group of scientists from the Institute of Space Science, capitalizing on the previous expertise gained in space microbiology research, human spaceflight support applications, solar-terrestrial interaction, space ionizing radiation projects and terrestrial human health and safety applications, to make significant future contributions to the field of "Life in the Universe - in Space and on Earth" as the highly interdisciplinary and integrated umbrella encompassing:

  - Space micro- and macro-biology, the study of Life in microgravity and in radiation field, through experiments in extraterrestrial conditions simulators and on spacecrafts (different orbital vehicles and on the International Space Station - ISS) - read more;
  - Humans in Spaceflight, the study of Space Medicine, Physiology, Psychology and Sociology - read more;
  - Countermeasures, the protection of astronauts against impairments induced by MICE - Microgravity, Isolated and Confined Environment - and the consequent terrestrial spin-off - read more;
  - Solar and Planetary hazards, the near and medium-deep space environment of the Earth - the Sun and the Solar System - and its implications in the life emergence and survivability - read more;
  - SSA - Space Situational Awareness, the study of near-Earth space threats for terrestrial Life and Society and the quest for coutermeasures and mitigation actions and services - read more;
  - Human Health and Safety protection in critical situations using space-based technologies (Critical Telemedicine and Support for Crisis Management) - read more;

    ... and ultimately,
  - Astrobiology, as the study of the origin, evolution, distribution, and future of Life in the Universe - read more;

    ... as well as
  - Astrosociology, as the study of space age and spaceflight inflicts on Human Society on and beyond Earth- read more.

Life in the Universe - in Space and on Earth - is an endeavor that involves Space as well as Earth exploration and it brings together scientists from Natural Sciences (Physics, Astrophysics, Astronomy, Mathematics, Geophysics, Geography, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, Ecology etc.), Human Sciences (Psychology, Sociology, Cognitive Sciences, Medicine, Neurosciences, Education, Futurology etc.) and Engineering (Information Science, Information and Communication Technology, Systems Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering etc.)

The topics of interest to us are aligned with those determined by ESA (the European Space Agency) and NASA (the American National Administration for Aeronautics and Space) as well as by the Romanian National body in charge with the National Strategy for Aeronautics and Space namely, the Romanian Space Agency - ROSA.

"Life in the Universe" is a delocalized colaborative community that generates knowledge and projects on Life in Space and on Earth.

Due to the widely interdisciplinary and challenging character of the "Life in the Universe" approach we would like to collaborate with national and international institutions as well as with independent specialists, so anyone interested in such collaboration is warmly welcome to contact us.
