The Institute of Space Science (ISS) received ISO 9001 recertification, which is an official assessment of the quality of the management and of the best practices within the organisation, while demonstrating the commitment of ISS management team towards ensuring the quality on various levels of activity of the institute.
ISS conducts scientific research in areas such as Astroparticle Physics, High Energy Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology, Space Plasma Physics, Solar-Terrestrial Interaction Physics, Interplanetary Environment Physics and Space Weather and also performs activities related to applied research, design and development of space technologies. ISS has been involved in collaborations and partnerships renowned both nationally and internationally (CERN-ALICE, FAIR, ANTARES, KM3NeT, Pierre Auger Observatory), in ESA’s space programme through space missions such as Euclid, Planck, Cluster and in the first Romanian experiment on board of the International Space Station.
ISS has achieved the first ISO 9001 certificate on 22 August 2012 and the organisation has been continually seeking to maintain and improve the performance and general capabilities. Periodically, the Institute goes through a complex audit which aims to reconfirm the high standards of quality recognised by ISO 9001.
