Researchers’ Night 2014 – The European celebration of science in Bucharest

Afis Bucuresti NC2014

The launch pad is installed, the propulsion engines are ready, the journey begins!

On 26 September, at 5 p.m. in Bucharest, Tineretului Park, Şincai Entry, start your journey in the world of science at the Researchers’ Night 2014.

All travelers are invited to take the desired seat and to take part in an adventurous travel route into the world of real researchers. This year edition provokes all visitors to become passengers involved in the world of science in the four main areas of the event.

In the Hands On area, independent researchers and research institutes show and demonstrate how their work and research experiments evolves. Among the research institutes participating in the event are the The National Institute for Laser, Plasma & Radiation Physics, the Institute of Physics, the Institute of Space Science, the “Horia Hulubei” Horia Hulubei National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering, the Geological Institute of Romania, and the Faculty of Physics and many other guests.

Physics workshops, experiments, observations by microscope or telescope, demonstrations of mental control, 2D and 3D, virtual journeys through the solar system, the making of mini-comets, demonstrations of robotics and inventions, all this will present the latest discoveries and inventions, and also the most interesting scientific concepts, and those present will sift researchers about how each thing is working. As the name implies, it is where participants are allowed to touch the exhibits, to contribute to experiments, to interact with researchers.

In the area dedicated to research in the European Union, participants will learn the latest trends in research at the European level, will test their general knowledge and they can participate in a European lottery.

The children will enjoy and learn though games a lot of interesting things about the solar system, physics, chemistry, robots, and more, in the SCI FUN area. In this area are scheduled races, robots races, visible in the dark ink drawings and other fun experiments.

The SCeNe Unconventional Researchers Show, which reached its second edition, this year will be the strongest represented in the Agora area. There are scheduled presentations, debates, questions and answers sessions. Among the speakers who have confirmed their presence are included Dr. Florin Munteanu – from the Complete Studies Center, Pierre de Hillerin – from the National Institute for Research in Sport, Roxana Dincã – from Digi World and the the International Linguistics Olympiad Olympic team.

The journey into the world of science will be maintained by moments of adrenaline and strength with RebornED team, which will perform a Freerunning and Parkour show and moments of visual excitement with a lights and lasers show.

From the main stage of the event, visitors will travel to the CERN particle accelerator, via a live broadcast facilitated by the “Horia Hulubei” National Institute of Research and Development for Physics and Nuclear Engineering. From here they will walk in the cosmological and microscopic black holes domain together with Octavian Micu – from the Institute of Space Science, they will travel through the history of lasers in Romania with Ioan Dancus – from the National Research and Development Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation, and other interesting topics such as cosmic rays hunting or the nuclear fusion implications on our future.

The scene will be animated by the master of ceremonies, the actor Catalin Neamţu, researcher in the art of improvisation since 2002. You also know him as the Obibug alien from “Neatza cu Răzvan și Dani”. The bravest spectators will take the stage and be rewarded for attending short funny improvisation exercises.

This year edition of the Researchers’ Night proposes two different approaches dictated by the organizer teams – the science seen based on the impact on everyday life #researchers4humanity and science that unites people beyond linguistic or geographical borders and which reveals itself through an understandable language for everyone #doyouspeakscience.

Researchers’ Night 2014 will take place on 26 September in Bucharest and 14 other cities: Arad, Bacau, Brasov, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Craiova, Galati, Iasi, Oradea, Piatra Neamt, Sibiu, Suceava, Targu Jiu, Timisoara.

About Researchers’ Night

Researchers’ Night is an event funded by the European Commission through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions.

The event aims to show the public what it means to be a researcher and how interesting the research work can be.

The first European Researchers’ Night event was held in 2005 and attracted 1.5 million visitors so far. The event offers to scientists the opportunity to connect with the public and to the public the chance to discover the world of science and the people behind the experiments. The 2013 edition attracted over 40,000 visitors in Romania.

This edition of Researchers’ Night is organized in Romania under the auspices of the European Union and under the patronage of the Ministry of Education by the two teams:

#Researchers4Humanity – Invenio Association, Active Target Training, Center for Complexity Studies, National Institute for Research in Sports.
#doyouspeakscience – University “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” of Iasi, University of Bucharest, “Babes Bolyai” University of Cluj, University of Craiova, “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu, West University of Timisoara, National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation, Institute of Atomic Physics, Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering “Horia Hulubei”, Institute of Space Science, with support from the Ministry of National Education.

In Bucharest, the two teams will have the following guests: Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, National Meteorological Administration (NMA), National Anti-Doping Agency, Urania Astronomical Association, Bucharest Astroclub, International Centre of Biodynamics, Europe Direct Information Centre, General Inspectorate of Romanian Police, General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, National Institute for Research and Development in Microtechnologies, European Institute of Romania (EIR), Geological Institute of Romania, National Institute of Materials, National Institute for Research and Development for Cryogenic and Isotopic Technologies, National Institute for Earth Physics, Electrotechnical Research Institute, National Institute of Research-Development for Machines and Installations designed to.
