The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna

Details: The success of LISA Pathfinder, coupled with the first direct detection of gravitational waves by the LIGO-VIRGO collaboration, opened the door for the LISA, the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna. LISA was selected by ESA in June 2017 as the 3rd Large class mission of the Cosmic Vision programme. LISA consists of 3 satellites in a triangular constellation of 2.5million km on a side, orbiting the sun in an earth trailing orbit. The passage of a gravitational wave is observed by monitoring the length of each arm with respect to the other arms.
