The Institute of Space Science invites you to discover the universe we live in and to take part in activities specially prepared for the Researchers’ Night event, which will be held on Friday, 26 September 2014, from 17:00 in the Tineretului Park in Bucharest (Şincai entry).
Children area
- How old are you on Mars? One year on Earth is not the same with one year on the other planets of our solar system, so we invite you to discover how old would you be if you haven’t been living on Earth.
- What is seen through a microscope? Discover the universe at a small-scale and take part in interactive experiments that will explain the basics of physics.
- Step into the land of ALICE-CERN and embark on an imaginary journey to the beginnings of the universe.
- Take part at the origami and coloring games workshop.
The astronomical observations area
- In favorable weather conditions, you can see the sky through a telescope and learn about the constellations that are visible and find out how they can be identified. (for all ages)
Exploring the universe
- Explore the space via the ExpoSol interactive application. You will be able to virtually travel to the eight planets of our solar system, the dwarf planet Pluto and even to the Sun. (for all ages)
- What are the black holes? How many types of galaxies exist and how can you recognize them? Learn more about these topics that have caught people’s attention and discover how can you help researchers from your home. (for all ages)
The astronauts area
- Be an astronaut for a day! Come to the ISS booth and take a picture to see how you look in the astronaut suit. (for children and adolescents)
- Learn more about Starwalker, a Space Technology Competence Center for Countermeasures, whose team examines the issues of space exploration, how they can be prevented or controlled and how these methods can improve life on earth. (for students and the general public)
- Find out more about the backstage space activities and the opportunities available for you have in this area. The ISS researchers will answer your questions about how to become scientist or astronaut. (for pupils and students)
- Watch a unique, interactive slideshow on research in neuroscience, which will discuss topics such as the mind mysteries and physical and mental health education. (for students and the general public)
- Come to see demonstrations of mental control system and learn about brain power and the mind training. The ISS researchers will reveal what sciences work together to make findings on these issues. (for students and the general public)
Science agora area
- This area brings presentations followed by questions and answers. You will learn about black holes, from supermassive to the microscopic ones, about the largest fine cosmic ray observatory in the world, Pierre Auger Observatory, and also what are the cosmic rays and particles showers in Earth’s atmosphere and whether they affect our daily lives or not.
The event, which has the purpose to promote research among the general public, will be taking place at the same evening in more than 300 cities in Europe and 16 in our country. In Romania, it will be held in Bucharest, Iasi, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Constanta, Craiova, Galati, Brasov, Suceava, Bacau, Arad, Sibiu, Piatra Neamt, Tulcea, Oradea and Targu Jiu, in the city centers and campuses.
