ISS researcher Dr. Octav Marghitu will represent the organisation at the 3rd Swarm Science Meeting, sponsored by the European Space Agency (ESA). The event will take place at the IDA Conference Centre in Copenhagen on 19-20 June 2014 and it is open to the science community at large.
Following the launch of ESA’s magnetic field mission, Swarm, on 22 November 2013, the 3rd Swarm Science Meeting will reveal the first science results from the mission.
Other topics include:
- Mission status after the commissioning phase (satellites, instruments, operations, science data systems)
- Presentation of the outcome of the Cal/Val activities
- Plans for exploitation projects
- An international media event focusing on the role of Swarm within the Earth sciences
Dr. Octav Margitu will hold a presentation on „Auroral Electrodynamics with Swarm”.

About the SWARM mission
The ESA Earth Observation Swarm satellite mission, a constellation of three satellites to measure the Earth’s magnetic field, was launched on 22 November 2013.
The mission will deliver observations that provide new insight into the Earth system by improving our understanding of the Earth’s interior as well as the near Earth electro-magnetic environment, due to the unprecedented high-accuracy and high spatial resolution measurements of the strength, direction and time variations of the magnetic field.
