On 14 May 1981, at 17:16:38 UTC, the Soyuz-40 mission was launched, taking on board the first Romanian cosmonaut, Dumitru-Dorin Prunariu. The mission was part of the Intercosmos program and lasted 7 days, 20 hours, 41 minutes, 52 seconds. On 15 May, Soyuz-40 docked on Salyut-6 space station. Altogether, the crew orbited the Earth 124 times, while the Romanian cosmonaut was studying the Earth’s magnetic field. There were also studies on the station’s guidance system and Earth observation studies over the territory of Romania.
