R3B – Reactions with Relativistic Radioactive Beams
Institute for Space Sciences contributions to the R3B experiment:
- simulation of the new detector neuLAND.
- simulations of the hadronic shower properties of neutrons impinging on an iron plate; the work has been done for the GEANT4 and FLUKA experiments, but the results of these experiments show large differences.
- checking the validity of the algorithms for neutron interactions for GEANT4 and FLUKA against the data from a Saturne experiment; the results of this study shows that neither of the GEANT4 or the FLUKA algorithms agree with the experimental data.
- development of an improved standalone algorithm for GEANT4 that should be in better agreement with the experimental Saturne data.
- testing the behavior of the code with additional additional data, e.g. the threshold for energy deposition considered for the two cases of just the scintillator and of the scintillator together with the converter in the Saturne experiment.
- implementing in GEANT4 the full geometry of the old LAND detector and including it in the general simulation code for R3B and R3BSim.
- verifying the individual interaction in each of the GEANT4 and FLUKA codes, work which is currently under progress.
