Stage III. Analysis of (quasi)cyclic variability of the High Speed Stream parameters and geomagnetic indices (1964-2007) |
Contract no: |
81-021/18.09.2007 |
Deadline: |
31.01.2009 |
Activity III.1. |
- Spectral analysis of the high speed solar wind parameters (ISS) |
- The importance parameter (I) of the High Speed Streams (HSSs) in the solar wind was calculate using the HSS catalogues covering four solar cycles (nos. 20 – 23). A spectral analysis was performed on I data series as well as on the solar wind velocity data series. A comparative analysis of the calculated periods and phases with those of the Wolf number during solar cycle was done.

Activity III.2. |
– Analysis of the geomagnetic activity evolution between 1964 – 2007 (IGAR) |
- Geomagnetic variability reflected by its indices’ dynamics, was analysed on the 1964-2007 interval (four solar cycles: nos. 20-23). The main geomagnetic indices: Kp, aa, Aa, Ap, Dst as well as the number of Sudden Storm Commencements supplied by the World data bases were used. Data has been processed using different mathematical methods and we obtained the spectral components and the time evolution plots. The results were compared with the sunspot relative number variability during solar 11-yr cycle.
Activity III.3. |
- Geomagnetic measurements from the national network of repeated stations |
- The geomagnetic measurements in 15 stations from the repeated stations network, situated in central and western regions of Romania, were performed. These measurements were made in order to determine the horizontal component and the magnetic inclination that can be used to calculate the vertical component and the size of the total field vector.
Activity III.4. |
- Analysis and re-interpretation of geomagnetic data (1980-2007) from the IGAR data base |
- We analyzed the space-time evolution of the horizontal component and the total intensity of the geomagnetic field on the Romania territory. We draw maps of the secular variation for the 1980 – 1991 and 1991 – 2007 intervals and we draw also the map of the impulse distribution of the secular variation at the 1991,0 epoch.
